Getting the best price on high-quality items online does not have to be complicated. Google Shopping is an easy tool that helps you compare prices from many different stores, all in one place. This article will show you how to use Google Shopping to find good products at real discount prices.

What is Google Shopping?

Google Shopping is a tool that helps you compare product prices across online stores.

When you search for an item, it shows you prices from many different sellers, such as large chains like Target, Walmart, and Best Buy, as well as smaller specialty shops.

When you click on what you are interested in, Google Shopping sends you to the store’s website. If you like it, you buy it directly from the retailer's website.

This tool saves you time by helping you find the best deals without checking each store one by one.

How do I get to Google Shopping?

  1. Visit Google.

Using Google Shopping is as easy as visiting google.com from a phone, computer, or tablet.

  2. Search for what you want.

Click in the search box and type the item you want, such as “kitchen blender,” then press the Enter or Return key on your keyboard. Several listings will appear.

Note: If you already know which brand you want, add the brand to the end of the search term. Example: kitchen blender Cuisinart

  1. Select the shopping tab.

The shopping tab is towards the top of the page (see yellow highlight in the picture below). When you select the Google Shopping tab, you're telling Google that you only want to see shopping results.

Should I ignore the sponsored ads?

At the top of Google Shopping results, you may see items labeled “Sponsored.”

These are ads that those sellers paid for so they could have their products shown first.

These items are not necessarily bad, but they may not be the best product or the best price.

It is a good idea to scroll down and look at the other items below. You will often find better quality matches for what you're looking for, as unsponsored products are shown first based on merit.

What is included in every product listing on Google Shopping?

If the information is available from the seller, Google Shopping shows each product with the following information:

  • If the product is discounted, Google will show it on the top left corner of the image.

  • A “nearby” note (if you can pick it up at a local store and how far away it is from you)

  • The name of the product (brand and model)

  • The price

  • The store selling it

  • A delivery estimate (when it would arrive if you ordered it today)

  • Return information (how many days you have to return it if you change your mind)

  • Star ratings and number of reviews

    • Look for higher star ratings (4.3 stars and up), and choose items with many reviews, so you know others have tried them and liked them. This is a good way to judge the quality of the product.

How can I filter for the best items?

Filters are simple controls that help you narrow the list of items so you can find exactly what you are looking for. When you filter, you won't waste time looking at items that don't meet your specifications.

On Google Shopping, you can open filters by clicking this small icon near the top that looks like three lines with sliders.

Some of the more useful filters that you can use include price, rating, and free shipping.

Examples for each:

  • Set a maximum price so Google Shopping only shows items in your budget, like “$75” for a blender.

  • Turn on a minimum rating filter, such as “4 stars & up,” to hide poorly reviewed items.

  • Try to choose items with free shipping when possible. If you don't, the price you see may not include shipping.
